FAQ

Am I paid for the articles I write? No. We are simply wanting contributions from individuals who write because they love hunting and the outdoor lifestyle and enjoy sharing their knowledge and experiences through the written word.

Is there any way for me to earn money by contributing content to 1st Light Hunting? Yes. Any contributing blogger who brings in a sponsor will receive up to 40% of whatever the sponsor pays each month (depending on the total payment) for as long as they remain a 1st Light Hunting sponsor. 20% will be received for any additional sponsors’ payments.

Are there other benefits to writing for the 1st Light Hunting Journal community? Absolutely. Aside from scratching your creative itch, you can present your knowledge and love for the outdoors, while benefiting this community. Further, you can effectively reach the outdoor audience and market through your works. In doing so, you can establish an online presence, leading to more opportunities with 1st Light Hunting and other publications.

Can I write about anything I want to? All article topics must be approved by 1st Light Hunting, but generally speaking, it’s okay as long as it’s about hunting and the outdoors (stories, strategies, gear reviews, etc.). Note that we will not publish any direct political commentary, foul language or content that is more than PG-13 in nature.

Why can’t I write about those things? Though 1st Light Hunting commonly covers a variety of topics, we are a faith-based community and wish to keep it clean. This doesn’t mean that we don’t have fun and ignore aspects of the hunting lifestyle though.  For example, we do not shy away from such topics as the consumption of alcoholic beverages (when used in moderation), because it is often part of the outdoor culture. In this example, we will not include anything that validates the abuse of it. In short, we will not present written or visual content that is unbecoming to our faith.  Secondarily, but also important, we strive to maintain a tasteful and professional environment for our sponsor.

Do I retain ownership over any content that I provide? Yes. Online contributors retain the rights to their work, meaning that they can republish pieces on personal blogs and portfolios and with other publications. If you wish to republish with another publication, please alert the 1st Light Hunting Journal.
